What does "Could I come near your beauty with my nails, I’d set my ten commandments in your face" mean?
Posted on March 22nd, 2010 1 commentFound in Shakespeare’s Henry VI, Part II. Does it just mean the speaker wants to scratch the subject’s face?
Yep: exactly. The Ten Commandments were engraved on stone tablets. The Duchess of Gloucester is saying she’d like to scratch Queen Margaret’s face like that.
